USA Today Follow-up on Yemeni Bombings

On September 18th I followed the progress of a USA Today breaking news story about the United States embassy assault in Yemen. On the homepage of USA Today today was a follow-up story highlighting the information that has surfaced within the past month and a half about the people who were responsible for the attack.

The follow-up story stated that the six men who performed the attack were trained in an al-Qaeda camp in Yemen. Yemen has been an ally of the United States in the war on terrorism. The United Nations has increased security levels in the country because of the continuous terrorist attacks Yemen has experienced. The assault was the worst attack on a U.S. embassy in a decade.

The original story was mainly comprised of text and included one picture. This follow-up story was solely comprised of text. The ways in which USA Today chose to present these stories was appropriate. They were from out of the country and people mainly just need the hard news straight. It might have been a good idea to include some before and after photos of the embassy but for the most part the text was just fine. Hard news stories like this one I have found are more effective by just by allowing the reader to read the information.
